How We Work

Every engagement starts with counsel: we agree the questions, the records and the deadline before work begins. Every statement and record is indexed into a master ledger so nothing is analyzed twice or missed. Each conclusion is tied back to a source document you can put in front of a court, and the findings, schedules and exhibits are written for people who are not accountants.

        Securities and Accounting Fraud

Outside counsel engaged SMALL after an internal whistle-blower alleged accounting and securities fraud by the Chief Financial Officer. The work covered company financial data, budgeting models, market forecasts and public filings, plus an electronic document review, and gave the legal team a clear picture of what happened and the company’s exposure.
        CFO Fraud

A Decade of Money Across 50 Accounts

For a litigation team, SMALL traced funds through cryptocurrency, fiat currency and real estate purchases across the Americas, analyzing more than 50 bank accounts over ten years. The analysis gave counsel the flow of funds they needed to advance the matter.
        Revamping Firm Operations

        Trust Account Embezzlement

As a federal agent, Douglas Small helped investigate a law firm employee who embezzled $2 million from client trust accounts, tracing the funds through several financial institutions. The case ended in forfeiture of the stolen assets. It is the kind of matter that informs how SMALL runs trust accounting for its law firm clients today.
